The Garden Club visits nurseries, gardens
(both private and open to the public) and has speakers on
various types of plants that do well in our part of the world.

The Garden Club activities are normally scheduled on the third Thursday of the month, unless otherwise stated.
The programs will be at a member's home or on a field trip to points of interest, such as a nursery and a garden.


September 21 Luncheon & Outing to Elsberry Garden Center
"A Garden Luncheon" at Dottie Drouin's house @11:00 a.m.
Visit to Elsberry Garden Center on Big Bend Road for lessons on "How to Care for your Begonias".

January 25 Thursday Tour of Speedling Wholesale Nursery
This business originated in Ruskin,
now expanded nationwide. Learn background information about local agricultural industry and operations.
This nursery supplies local farms, nurseries and box stores with plant sets and other agriculture supplies.
They manufacture Tropical Fish styrofoam air express packing boxes for the tropical aquaculture farms,
unique this area. Located Sun City (south of Ruskin Hwy 41)

February 16 Gamble House
This is a combined trip for the Culture, Garden, and Book Clubs who will enjoy a guided tour of
Major Robert Gamble's historic mansion of an antebellum sugar plantation built in the mid 1800s, the oldest
building in Manatee County. Lunch will be at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar - Ellenton, near the outlet mall
for shopping after lunch.

March 21 Memory Making Tour
Mixon's "Orange Blossom" Express Tram (Mixon Fruit Farms, Gift Shoppe & the Groveside Cafe.)
Take an informative, educational ride through the Orange Grove, witnessing the picking and packing process and
a stop at their wildlife rescue. 11:00 am tour; 12:00 noon, lunch ($16).

April 14/15 USF Annual Spring Plant Show

Stroll the gardens' natural areas and explore collections and displays that include: orchids, begonias,
mallows, bromeliads, gingers, ferns, aroids, fruit trees, palms, carnivorous plants, butterfly garden,
herb and scent gardens.
